Marranzini dice RD debe abrir sus puertas a un ejercicio responsable de la actividad minera

La Asociación de Industrias de la República Dominicana (AIRD) celebró un webinar en que se presentaron las acciones y procesos llevados a cabo por la Corporación Minera Dominicana (CORMIDOM) que caracterizan a la empresa como un modelo de lo que significa una minería social y ambientalmente responsable, liderada por jóvenes dominicanos cada día más comprometidos en sus comunidades. Actualmente, el 76% de los colaboradores directos provienen de la comunidad de Maimón.

Al pronunciar unas palabras introductorias, Celso Juan Marranzini, presidente de la AIRD, expresó que se trata de un ejemplo de ciudadanía corporativa, con impacto clave en el desarrollo económico de la zona y del país “más allá de sus obligaciones contractuales”.

“República Dominicana está llamada a conocer su potencial minero, a abrir las puertas a un ejercicio responsable de esta actividad –de lo cual hoy conoceremos algunos detalles a partir de la experiencia de CORMIDOM- a no negarse a la riqueza de una tierra bendita, bajo regulaciones que nos garanticen que es una tierra para nosotros y para las futuras generaciones, que no se trata de un bienestar momentáneo, sino de una posible plataforma para la prosperidad a largo plazo”, indicó Marranzini.

En la presentación hecha por Elizabeth Mena, vicepresidenta de asuntos gubernamentales de la empresa, se explicó que Cormidom es una empresa minera metálica que opera la Mina de Cerro de Maimón, ubicada en la provincia Monseñor Nouel desde el 2009 y que actualmente produce concentrado de cobre y zinc que es exportado a diversas partes del mundo. La misma trabaja vía la Fundación Cormidom “su brazo, corazón y mente de responsabilidad social y relaciones comunitarias, y por medio de la cual materializa cada año una serie de programas y amplias iniciativas que se ocupan de aportar a la construcción de un futuro innovador, renovable y sustentable, con bienestar social”, señaló.

Cormidom trabaja en base a un plan de sostenibilidad enfocado en cuatro pilares: gestión ambiental, gestión social, gestión económica y gestión ocupacional.

En la gestión ambiental trabajan en la preservación de los suelos auspiciando 5 especies de flora en peligro de extinción e interviniendo 5 cuencas hidrográficas: Río Blanco, Arroyo Toro (Río Ozama), Río Sin, Río La Leonora sembrando más de 2 millones de plantas endémicas e impulsado la educación ambiental en los colaboradores y las comunidades vecinas. Su filosofía de sembrar árboles para generar agua, invertir en tecnología para reducir la huella carbono y principalmente invertir en la gente, esto incluye los colaboradores y las comunidades.

Su estrategia de sostenibilidad está alineada a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible y su filosofía es que cada día se trabaja por una nueva minería por lo que ellos llaman: la minería del futuro que ya es ahora.
