Abre Dominicana posibilidad generar energía con residuos sólidos

La Asociación de Industrias de la República Dominicana (AIRD), junto a la Agencia Alemana de Cooperación (GIZ) y ECORED celebraron el webinar “Cómo aprovechar energéticamente los residuos sólidos”.

Carsten Linnerberg, director general y fundador de AD Solutions, empresa alemana que trabaja en el área de la gestión anaeróbica de residuos y el tratamiento de aguas residuales, realizó una primera presentación en la que expuso los diversos tipos de energía que se pueden producir, las fuentes de residuos y las tecnologías existentes.

Linnerberg habló de generación de energía por: incineración de residuos, co-procesamiento, digestión anaeróbica, recolección de gas de relleno sanitario y pirolisis-gasificación a las cuales describió, estableció sus ventajas y desventajas y su aplicación en República Dominicana.

Dania Heredia, vicepresidente de la Junta Directiva de ECORED, hizo una segunda presentación en la cual estableció cómo la Ley actual sobre Residuos Sólidos puede ser aprovechada para iniciativas que busquen incentivar el uso energético de los mismos.

Luego de las exposiciones se celebró un panel con la participación además de Linnenberg y Heredia, de Clemens Findeisen, experto de la GIZ en la valorización de los residuos, y Otto González, consultor con más de 20 años de experiencia dirigiendo empresas de generación eléctrica en RD, el Caribe y Centro América.

Circe Almánzar, vicepresidente ejecutiva de la AIRD, tuvo a su cargo la moderación del evento.

Las palabras introductorias estuvieron a cargo de Celso Juan Marranzini, presidente de la AIRD, quien indicó que “avanzar en una o más de las posibilidades que serán expuestas puede ser un buen negocio y un buen negocio para todos”.

Afirmó que la AIRD no escatimará esfuerzos porque sus socios están convencidos de que así podrán fortalecer la sostenibilidad económica y ambiental de las empresas y del país, generar mucho más empleos, muchas más materias primas y nuevos productos de consumo y exportación, impactar positivamente la balanza comercial, “entre otros aspectos de un ganar-ganar como empresas y como sociedad”.

La AIRD ha impulsado Nueva Vida para los Residuos (NUVI) que, en breves palabras, busca mantener los residuos como materia prima el mayor tiempo posible, reduciendo costos e importaciones, generando empleos e impactando positivamente el medio ambiente. Esta iniciativa se ha enfocado, en su primera etapa, en las botellitas de PET.

La industria nacional y el país tienen los recursos para impulsar el desarrollo sostenible de la nación a través de estas fuentes que pueden ser consideradas como fuentes renovables de energía.

El webinar abordó respuestas a algunas preguntas, entre ellas: ¿cómo aprovechar energéticamente los residuos que no reciclamos? Incluyendo los residuos orgánicos. ¿Cómo hacerlo a gran escala? ¿Es posible y podría ser rentable? ¿Cuáles son las oportunidades y tecnologías existentes para la valorización energética de los residuos sólidos, las ventajas y desventajas de cada tecnología?
