SANTO DOMINGO, R.D. Agosto, 2021.- El terremoto ocurrido el pasado sábado 14 de agosto de 2021 es un evento de la naturaleza que nuevamente afecta Haití y a su pueblo. A 11 años y 8 meses del terremoto del 12 de enero de 2010, el país ha vuelto a ser golpeado. La secuela de destrucción de las principales infraestructuras del país y la muerte de miles de personas, no son suficientes para poner de rodillas a todo un pueblo.
Ahora esta nueva catástrofe ha provocado más dolor y tristeza a nuestro pueblo. El saldo de muertos, datos provisionales asciende hasta el momento, a 1.419 muertos y más de 6.900 personas heridas, 37,312 casas destruidas, 46,913 resultaron dañadas y más de 75,000 familias resultaron afectadas en los departamentos del Sur, Nippes y Grand’Anse.
Ante este lamentable panorama, el Gobierno que preside el doctor Ariel Henry, ha decretado 3 días de duelo nacional, a partir de hoy martes 17 de agosto.
La Embajada de la República de Haití en República Dominicana desde el mismo momento de la presente tragedia ha mantenido contacto directo con el Gobierno dominicano y organizaciones de la sociedad que han expresado su voluntad de solidarizarse con el pueblo haitiano.
En particular, el Gobierno de Haití, a través de su Embajada en Santo Domingo, quiere expresar su agradecimiento a las autoridades dominicanas por su solidaridad con el pueblo haitiano.
En esta circunstancia dolorosa, la Embajada de Haití saluda a la diáspora haitiana en República Dominica y aprovecha para expresar sus condolencias a los compatriotas que tienen familiares o han sido afectados por la tragedia.
A las organizaciones sociales que están movilizando ayudas materiales, que se están coordinando a través de nuestra Embajada y que pronto serán entregadas a las autoridades oficiales de Haití y actores de la sociedad civil para que sean distribuidas en las zonas afectadas por el siniestro, nuestro agradecimiento por su solidaridad para el pueblo de Haití.
En un esfuerzo por facilitar el paso de toda la ayuda de República Dominicana a Haití, la Embajada ha establecido un comité de emergencia.
