ASUNCIÓN.- La aerolínea estadounidense American Airlines dejó de operar su vuelo directo Asunción-Miami “de forma definitiva”, única ruta sin escalas que unía al país suramericano con Estados Unidos, según informó ayer a Efe el director de Aeronáutica Civil (Dinac) del Gobierno paraguayo, Luis Aguirre.
Aguirre aseguró que el pasado miércoles salió el último vuelo de American desde el aeropuerto internacional Silvio Pettirossi de Asunción, tras comunicar la empresa el día anterior su decisión a la Dinac.
El titular de la Dirección de Aeronáutica dijo que el martes el representante regional de la empresa le informó de la decisión en una reunión en Asunción.
Según aguirre, tres aerolíneas quedan en Paraguay que conecten con Estados Unidos: Tam, haciendo escala en Brasil; Avianca, parando en Perú, y Copa, con escala en Panamá.
El funcionario afirmó que la empresa estadounidense había comunicado que dejaría de operar temporalmente durante la temporada de menos viajeros, pero finalmente decidió informar que abandonan el país, aunque la empresa ya había vendido billetes para el junio, de acuerdo con Aguirre.
El titular de la Dinac opinó que la aerolínea “atraviesa un proceso de reingeniería mayor que implica cambio de rutas y de equipos”.
Aguirre resaltó que es un vuelo “que siempre va lleno y viene lleno”, por lo que están buscando otras operadoras para que hagan esa ruta y “poder sacar jugo a la posición de Paraguay en el centro” de Suramérica.
