ARTICULO: Vivimos una revolución industrial que tiene como sello a las Telecomunicaciones

Para la región CEACA (Centroamérica y el Caribe) la evolución de las empresas de telecomunicaciones ha sido muy importante en el desarrollo de su economía, de su sociedad y de su industria. Las telecomunicaciones cada día se convierten más en la médula de otras industrias, aún más con el desarrollo de tecnologías disruptivas como el internet de las cosas (IoT) y la llegada de las nuevas redes 5G.

Por esto, es muy significativo el trabajo que se ha venido haciendo con celeridad por lograr la Autopista Mesoamericana de la Información (AMI), una red de fibra óptica regional de 1.800 km con la Red Centroamericana de Telecomunicaciones (REDCA) a la cabeza, con el fin de abaratar los costos de banda ancha y acelerar la penetración del internet en Centroamérica.

Y para potenciar estos esfuerzos, es indispensable el desarrollo de una industria de telecomunicaciones dinámica ágil e innovadora para los distintos mercados, que es también la dinamizadora del desarrollo y despliegue de nuevos servicios, a partir de la adopción de tecnologías más flexibles y ágiles para implementar en su propio negocio pero con alto impacto social.

En este sentido es muy importante lo que empresas tradicionales en la región, que incluso han podido llegar a ser monopólicas con hábitos y prácticas muy arraigados, han venido haciendo con sus partners tecnológicos para evolucionar de cara a sus usuarios, que con nuevos hábitos de consumo y necesidades de conectividad, marcan el rumbo de renovación y transformaciones del sector.

En este contexto, los partners tecnológicos impulsan transformaciones reales que permiten al sector de las telecomunicaciones estar al día con las exigencias de agilidad y servicio que hoy se imponen para competir y servir. Una llave de trabajo crítica, como se ha evidenciado en este último año de crisis sanitaria donde el sector ha sido fundamental para la sociedad.

Uno de los partners que se destaca, incluso más allá de la tecnología, por su influencia en la transformación del sector de las telecomunicaciones, de cara a su evolución tecnológica y como agente de social, es RED HAT empresa líder en el desarrollo de software empresarial de Código Abierto (Open Source), que a partir de su cultura imprime una visión al sector, novedosa y sustentable.

Para nosotros es importante imprimir agilidad en la implementación de cualquier tecnología a partir de una cultura abierta que comparte conocimiento dinámico, que es colaborativa y que enriquece así el trabajo de innovación, pues permite que desde diferentes niveles de la organización se proponga y se sume en la solución de retos”, explica Juan López Gerente Comercial para Telecomunicaciones en Red Hat Centro América y el Caribe (CEACA).

De hecho, el Código Abierto hace que entre partners de negocios y tecnología se integren mucho más rápido nuevos productos y desarrollos, ya que el software de esta manera se presenta como campo de acceso no solamente para los especialistas más técnicos sino también a clientes finales, tanto para la implementación en toda la infraestructura, como para la personalización de los productos y servicios.

Así mismo, una solución Open Source tiene la flexibilidad de servir a múltiples desarrollos de infraestructura, por ejemplo, los de multinube, a través de soluciones como Openshift en donde se puede integrar y escalar el desarrollo de aplicaciones y soluciones de software en cualquier tipo de nube pública y/o privada, de una forma rápida, ágil y sin grandes costos costos.

Estas características de implementación y adopción de tecnología para una compañía de telecomunicaciones son críticas, sobre todo en un escenario como el de redes 5G, donde la virtualización es clave para el despliegue de redes y computación de borde rápidamente, y sin un impacto creciente en costos para lograrlo y hacerlo sostenible.

“Rompemos las cadenas que amarran el desarrollo de la infraestructura y le damos escalamiento a las empresas de telecomunicaciones, brindándoles libertad para evolucionar, crecer y trabajar de forma abierta con multimarcas en las soluciones que requieran para consolidar su oferta al mercado, lo que al final impacta en su oferta, tanto en costos como en estabilidad”, afirma López de Red Hat.

Para los expertos es claro que, además de una infraestructura apoyada en tecnología y una cultura abierta, existen aspectos determinantes para lograr sus objetivos de impacto en toda la economía y la sociedad.

Uno de estos temas es el regulatorio, que la región CEACA necesita sintonizar rápidamente con los cambios de modelo en el mundo, ya que estos llevan a repensar las formas de desarrollo y crecimiento de infraestructura, configurando también un escenario de competencia y de oferta de servicios que es indispensable entender y abordar para no rezagarse en la Cuarta Revolución Industrial (4RI).

Es importante que las empresas de la región realicen cambios, y promuevan y negocien cambios regulatorios que les permitan ser más estratégicas en la evolución hacia tecnologías 5G y su impacto en el despliegue del internet de las cosas, la agricultura de precisión, las ciudades inteligentes, la telemedicina y la teleeducación, ejes de desarrollo social y económico, que, en paralelo, son también un termómetro para saber si como economía se está en la cabeza o en la cola respecto con esta nueva revolución, que tiene como sello a las telecomunicaciones.
