Santo Domingo, Rep. Dom., Febrero 18, 2021.- Alrededor de un tercio del aumento registrado en las remesas en la última década fue canalizado a través de los bancos múltiples y otras Entidades de Intermediación Financiera, según arroja un estudio de la Asociación de Bancos Múltiples de la República Dominicana (ABA).
El análisis, elaborado por Julio Lozano, director de Estudios Económicos de la ABA,
señala que los aportes del sector financiero como canal de remesas para los hogares se incrementaron en un 31%, al pasar de USD143.00 millones en 2010 hasta USD1,535 millones en 2020.
El documento sostiene que el sector bancario ha logrado afianzarse con una participación de 18.7% en los servicios para facilitar los flujos de remesas, lo que significa un incremento de 14.6 puntos porcentuales, al finalizar el decenio.
Tomando como fuentes datos del Banco Central, la Superintendencia de Bancos y la Comisión Económica para América Latina (CEPAL), el estudio resalta la importancia de las remesas en diferentes niveles de la economía, contribuyendo a la reducción de la pobreza y la vulnerabilidad.
“Las remesas revisten de gran importancia para República Dominicana. A nivel macroeconómico, contribuyen con la estabilidad del tipo de cambio e impulsan la demanda interna. A nivel microeconómico, ayudan a estabilizar el consumo básico de los hogares”, afirmó la Asociación de Bancos.
La ABA expresa que, en el contexto de la pandemia, los bancos múltiples se han consolidado como un canal importante para la recepción de remesas, significando para sus usuarios, beneficios como ahorro de tiempos, costos de traslado, mayor seguridad física y cibernética, así como un fomento a la cultura del ahorro de los hogares.
