Reafirmando su solidez financiera y apoyo a sus países miembros, el Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (BCIE) al cierre del año 2020 alcanzó las cifras más altas en 60 años desde su fundación, referente a aprobaciones que suman US$3,459.1 millones, y desembolsos por un monto total de US$2,538.8 millones, lo que representa un incremento del 31%, respectivamente en comparación con el año 2019.
Las aprobaciones y desembolsos logrados se encuentran en concordancia con la situación de emergencia que enfrentan los países de la región ante la pandemia del covid-19, además de los efectos ocasionados por los huracanes Eta e Iota. Recordando que el BCIE como principal multilateral brindó una respuesta oportuna mediante la ejecución de diferentes programas, proyectos y soluciones financieras dirigidos al sector público y privado de los países.
Por su parte, el presidente ejecutivo del BCIE, Dante Mossi, mencionó que estos resultados han sido posibles gracias a la implementación del octavo incremento de capital, al pasar de US$5,000 millones a US$7,000 millones, siendo el primer banco de desarrollo en concretar un aumento general de capital durante la crisis de la actual pandemia. Lo que constituye un récord en la historia de capitalización entre los multilaterales de desarrollo, permitiendo mantener sólidos indicadores de capital, liquidez y la aplicación de políticas de gestión financiera prudentes.
Además, el Dr. Mossi explicó que en medio de un entorno desafiante por los efectos adversos del covid-19 y recientemente los estragos de los desastres naturales pone de manifiesto el alto nivel de compromiso, confianza y apoyo de los países socios para con el BCIE.
“También hemos cerrado el año con niveles cercanos a 0% en cuanto a mora se refiere lo que ratifica la acreeduría preferencial que los países (soberanos) le otorgan al BCIE, todo con el objetivo de continuar manteniendo nuestra calificación de riesgo AA de cara a los retos del año 2021”, refirió.
