SANTO DOMINGO.- El Directorio del Banco Mundial aprobó hoy un nuevo proyecto para la República Dominicana por 75 millones de dólares que busca ampliar el acceso para miles de ciudadanos a la protección social y contribuir a la reducción de la extrema pobreza.
El proyecto será financiado con un préstamo de US$75 millones de dólares de margen variable, reembolsable en 34 años y con un período de gracia de cinco años. Apoyará al Gabinete de Políticas Sociales de la República Dominicana a través de varias agencias del Gobierno, incluyendo el Instituto Nacional de Formación Técnico Profesional INFOTEP, el Sistema subsidiado de Salud SeNaSa, y el Ministerio de Educación.
“Este proyecto trata de proporcionar igualdad de oportunidades para todos los dominicanos, fortaleciendo las redes de protección existentes y facilitando la inserción laboral de las personas más vulnerables, con un enfoque particular en las mujeres y los hombres jóvenes,” afirmó Sophie Sirtaine, directora del Banco Mundial para el Caribe.
“Además apoya el fortalecimiento del sistema de focalización y amplían un sistema innovador de reportes ciudadanos para una mayor eficiencia y transparencia en el sistema de protección social”.
Las 14 provincias seleccionadas son Elias Píña, San Juan de la Maguana, Distrito Nacional, Bahoruco, Barahona, Independencia, Azua, San Cristóbal, Pedernales, El Seibo, Santiago, Monte Cristi, Santo Domingo, y Monte Plata.
