Santo Domingo, D.N.- La Embajada de los Estados Unidos de América y el Ministerio de Agricultura de la República Dominicana suscribieron un Memorando de Entendimiento (MDE) con la finalidad de fortalecer las capacidades públicas y privadas del país en Medidas Sanitarias y Fitosanitarias (MSF) mediante la implementación del programa Trade Safe (TraSa) por el International Executive Service Corps (IESC).
En representación del Gobierno de los Estados Unidos estuvo la embajadora , Robin S. Bernstein y en representación del Gobierno de la República Dominicana, el Ministro de Agricultura, Limber Cruz.
La embajadora Bernstein aseguró que el comercio internacional “se trata de la capacidad de nuestros sectores productivos de estar preparados para cumplir con los requisitos de los mercados de exportación, esto incluye el cumplimiento de los aspectos relacionados con la sanidad vegetal, la salud animal, la seguridad alimentaria y la facilitación del comercio. El programa Trade Safe tiene como objetivo fortalecer precisamente estas capacidades en las instituciones públicas y privadas dominicanas y así contribuir al continuo crecimiento de nuestro comercio bilateral agrícola. Estamos especialmente emocionados de trabajar de la mano con el Ministerio de Agricultura, así como con otras instituciones del Gobierno dominicano y del sector privado en este amplio programa de cinco años”.
Asimismo, el ministro de Agricultura Limber Cruz expresó: “Es necesario tener productos sanos y de la calidad que exigen los mercados internacionales; por eso nos esmeramos más allá de las medidas fitosanitarias agropecuarias, en lograr la inocuidad que es la reducción al mínimo de pesticidas en los productos alimenticios, a fin de promover las diferentes variedades que permitan posicionar la República Dominicana en los picos de exportación”.
