El Popular se suma Igualando RD para seguir incrementando igualdad género

Santo Domingo, D.N. – El Banco Popular Dominicano se sumó hoy al sello Igualando RD, una iniciativa del Ministerio de la Mujer y el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD), que promueve la igualdad de género y la autonomía económica y social de las mujeres en empresas y organizaciones.

Mediante la firma de una carta compromiso por parte de la señora Antonia Antón de Hernández, vicepresidente ejecutiva senior de Gestión Humana, Transformación Cultural, Administración de Créditos y Cumplimiento, el Banco Popular ampliará su modelo de gestión de buenas prácticas en el ámbito de la equidad de género, incorporando nuevos aspectos de conciliación de la vida laboral y familiar o personal, acceso al trabajo e igualdad salarial, eliminación de la discriminación, prevención e intervención en casos de violencia intrafamiliar y contra la mujer, entre otros.

Además, continuará incrementando la igualdad de género en la entidad bancaria, donde ya el 60% de su fuerza laboral es femenina, ocupando el 56% de las posiciones gerenciales, el 35% en niveles de vicepresidencias y el 40% en el staff directivo de la Presidencia Ejecutiva de la organización.

Las empresas que asumen este marco operativo acceden a cuatro niveles del sello de igualdad, en función de su grado de avance. Asimismo, tienen la posibilidad de certificarse en la norma Nordom 775, sobre sistema de gestión para la igualdad de género.

Gestión desde la realidad local

El convenio, suscrito en la Torre Popular, contó con la participación de las señoras Mayra Jiménez, ministra de la Mujer, e Inka Mattila, representante residente del PNUD para la República Dominicana, además de la señora Antonia Antón de Hernández, en nombre del Popular.

En sus palabras, la ejecutiva bancaria indicó que históricamente la plantilla laboral del banco ha estado conformada en su mayoría por mujeres. Con este acuerdo, dijo la ejecutiva, “seguimos honrando nuestro compromiso con los Principios de Banca Responsable, una alianza internacional de más de 200 bancos en los cinco continentes con las Naciones Unidas. Gracias al sello Igualando RD, reforzaremos nuestro accionar en torno a la Agenda 2030 y los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible y, en especial, el ODS número 5, que promueve la igualdad de género, como una pieza fundamental para el desarrollo y el crecimiento económico en equidad”.

Según la señora Antonia Antón de Hernández, en el ADN organizacional del Popular prevalece el respeto por el género femenino desde sus orígenes: “Nos hemos nutrido grandemente de sus ideas, de sus aportes y sus contribuciones, ofreciéndoles un entorno favorable para su desarrollo y crecimiento, basándonos en la meritocracia y sus propias competencias”.

Al hablar durante el evento, la señora Mayra Jiménez, ministra de la Mujer, indicó que “el sector bancario es uno de los motores del desarrollo y la responsabilidad que asume el Banco Popular, sumándose al sello Igualando RD, representa un paso más para contribuir al desarrollo económico sostenible. Sobre todo, en el momento actual, en el que se hace imprescindible contar con medidas que contribuyan al logro de la igualdad, al empoderamiento económico y al respeto de los derechos humanos de las mujeres, de forma tal que los efectos de la pandemia por la COVID-19 no sigan profundizando brechas y desigualdades”.
En tanto, la representante residente del PNUD, la señora Inka Mattila señaló que “nos enorgullece acompañarlos en esta iniciativa, y avanzar en conjunto para eliminar las barreras estructurales que socavan la igualdad de género, contribuyendo así a erradicar la desigualdad, construir resiliencia e impulsar el desarrollo sostenible. Sin igualdad de género no se logra el desarrollo sostenible pleno, y en esta meta, en la que nos proponemos para avanzar de manera sistemática, gana toda la sociedad”.
El sello Igualando RD busca redireccionar la gestión de las empresas en su enfoque hacia el género femenino, no solo en el espacio de trabajo, sino también en la construcción de un nuevo esquema de pensamiento sobre su rol en todos los ámbitos, para lograr un impacto altamente positivo en la sociedad.
