Santo Domingo, D.N. – El Banco Popular Dominicano fue elegido por la revista financiera The Banker como la principal entidad bancaria de la República Dominicana y la cuarta de la región del Caribe, en términos de su fortaleza financiera, según su clasificación regional «Los 30 Mejores Bancos del Caribe 2020».
En este ranking global, que mide el desempeño bancario de la región caribeña de acuerdo al ratio Tier 1 o core capital, el Banco Popular mejoró su resultado, al subir de la quinta posición entre sus pares regionales en 2019 a la cuarta durante el año pasado, sustentado en el liderazgo de sus indicadores financieros y la salud y estabilidad a futuro de su patrimonio y activos.
The Banker valora también que el Popular exhibe uno de los índices de morosidad más bajos de todo el sistema financiero en el Caribe.
Soluciones financieras verdes
Igualmente, en su espacio editorial, la publicación financiera destaca positivamente que, en un área como el Caribe, expuesta al incremento destructivo de los ciclones, el Banco Popular ha sido uno de los primeros de la región en comprometerse con soluciones financieras orientadas a reducir el impacto del cambio climático, destacando en otros el leasing verde para financiar paneles solares y vehículos eléctricos, un producto innovador en el mercado dominicano.
La revista The Banker ha elegido por trece veces al Popular como el «Banco del Año» en el país, siendo el pasado 2020 la última vez en que le fue otorgado este reconocimiento.
En esa ocasión, reconoció que “los esfuerzos digitales de Banco Popular son impresionantes” y que su compromiso con la sostenibilidad “es loable”, destacando los esfuerzos de la organización financiera para enfrentar con éxito el ambiente de incertidumbre generado por la pandemia de la COVID-19.
