SANTO DOMINGO, R.D. Abri, 2021.- El Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones (Indotel) fue premiado como “Regulador Innovador del Año” durante el evento “5G Latin America: Digital Symposium” por el proyecto de licitación de las bandas de los 700Mhz y 3.5Ghz que se realiza en la República Dominicana.
El órgano regulador de las telecomunicaciones en el país estuvo compitiendo junto a otros homólogos de la región de Centroamérica y el Caribe (CEACA), dentro de los que se incluyen la Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones (SUBTEL) de Chile y el Ministerio de Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicaciones (MINTIC) de Colombia. El Indotel fue propuesto con el tema “Licitación Internacional para operación de red 5G a nivel nacional”.
Nelson Arroyo, presidente del Consejo Directivo del Indotel, agradeció a los organizadores del evento y felicitó a las demás instituciones nominadas por su trabajo en beneficios del desarrollo de las telecomunicaciones en la región.
“Desde el inicio de la instalación de este nuevo gobierno y atendiendo a la visión de nuestro Presidente Luis Abinader, establecimos como prioridad habilitar la banda de 700 MHZ y 3.5 GHZ para ser aprovechadas por servicios móviles de quinta generación, así cómo la formulación e implementación del Plan Nacional de Banda Ancha, en busca de garantizar de forma eficiente, la cobertura total a nivel nacional de redes móviles y de despliegue de fibra. Mejorando así el acceso, la calidad y asequibilidad de los servicios de Internet de banda ancha de última generación”, explicó Arroyo.
Continuó asegurando que “Este proceso que es hoy es premiado por ustedes, resultará en uno de los logros palpables de esta gestión, y que nos colocará como país un paso adelante en cuanto oportunidades y acceso a las tecnologías para todos los dominicanos y dominicanas.”
Durante la actividad participó la directora ejecutiva del Indotel, Julissa Cruz, como expositora, y en donde explicó la importancia del proyecto para el desarrollo de las telecomunicaciones y las oportunidades económicas para la República Dominicana.
“Este proyecto de licitación internacional incluye aspectos importantes como lo es el de dotar a zonas rurales y rezagadas del país de infraestructura de telecomunicaciones, permitiéndoles a estos sectores tener acceso a tecnologías como telefonía, cable e internet. Esto nos permitirá cerrar la brecha digital que existe en República Dominicana”, aseguró Cruz.
El Simposio Digital 5G de América Latina abordó, entre otros temas, los requisitos de evolución de la red de la comunidad de proveedores de servicios en la región de América Latina, orientada a buscar inversiones en tecnología de próxima generación y comenzar el despliegue de servicios 5G.
En el evento, que se celebró de manera digital, participaron otros expertos de la región quienes conversaron sobre temas claves como la monetización de servicios empresariales y para el consumidor, la regulación y el espectro para 5G, las tecnologías de red y la innovación y la conectividad rural.
