Como parte de su agenda de trabajo, el ministro de Industria y Comercio, José Del Castillo Saviñón, firmó un acuerdo con el presidente de la Universidad Agroforestal Fernando Arturo de Meriño (UAFAM), Jaime Moreno, con el objetivo de promover las cadenas agroalimentarias de Barahona, estimando el impacto que
tendrá la presa de Monte Grande en la productividad de esa zona.
En un breve acto, desarrollado en la sede de la institución, ambas autoridades pactaron ejecutar acciones necesarias para aumentar la asociatividad de los actores de la cadena de valor de la pesca en la Laguna de Cabral, y proponer la constitución del Clúster Acuícola de la misma. Para lo que el MIC desembolsará RD$5, 484,000, en 12 cuotas, en igual cantidad de meses.
Además, en el convenio se contempló identificar el impacto agrícola y acuícola de la presa de Monte Grande, definir el mejor uso de la tierra a ser irrigada, así como identificar el potencial acuícola de la Presa de la Perla del Sur.
Del Castillo Saviñón, dijo que la firma de este convenio complementará el apoyo del Gobierno a través del Fondo Especial para el Desarrollo Agropecuario (FEDA) y la visita sorpresa que hiciera a los pescadores, el presidente Danilo Medina, quien autorizó el dragado de la laguna para resolver el problema de sedimentación que ha ocasionado la anegación de grandes extensiones de tierras cultivables por esa fuente acuífera.
Destacó la ejecución del proyecto “aumento de la competitividad de las pymes en las cadenas agroalimentarias de la provincia de Barahona”, mediante el aprovechamiento de la capacidad de compra del Estado y de los impactos de la presa, en la producción agrícola y acuícola.
De su lado, el presidente de la UAFAM, agradeció la colaboración entre las entidades y declaró que este pacto viene a fomentar y aprovechar las capacidades técnicas de manera sostenible a favor del país.
En nombre de los trabajadores de la pesca, el presidente de la Asociación de Pescadores de la Laguna de Cabral, Emilio Feliz, agradeció la acción del MIC y la UAFAM, que completará la ayuda del Mandatario, quien también ordenó facilitarles recursos para iniciar un proyecto de piscicultura en jaulas, que les permita vivir en condiciones dignas.
En el acto de firma participaron los viceministros del MIC, Vinicio Mella, Yahaira Sosa, Anina del Castillo, Marcelo Puello, así como el director Anselmo González, entre otros.
