Santo Domingo, R.D., Enero 28, 2021.- Philip Morris International celebró recientemente un nuevo hito en sus esfuerzos por combatir el cambio climático, la protección de bosques y la seguridad del agua al recibir la calificación “triple A” por parte la organización CDP, antes conocida como el Proyecto para la Divulgación del Carbono, convirtiéndose en una de las 10 empresas que han recibido este nivel de reconocimiento.
PMI logró por primera vez el mejor resultado en cada una de las tres categorías del ranking de CDP, una organización internacional sin fines de lucro que utiliza datos para ayudar a los responsables de la toma de decisiones a reducir el riesgo, a aprovechar las oportunidades y a impulsar acciones para conseguir los objetivos de sostenibilidad mundial. Sin embargo, este es el séptimo año en el que PMI clasifica en la Lista A para el Cambio Climático de CDP.
“Nos llena de gran satisfacción y nos honra ser distinguidos con la máxima puntuación de CDP, reconociendo nuestros esfuerzos por lograr un mundo más sostenible”, dijo Rebeca Ramón de Philip Morris. “Para Philip Morris el cambio climático es una de las problemáticas que vemos con mayor seriedad, por ser una de las crisis más importantes de nuestro tiempo por lo que como empresa nos sentimos comprometidos con la reducción de nuestra huella ambiental en toda nuestra cadena de valor”, agregó.
Además de sus siete reconocimientos en la categoría de Cambio Climático, en el pasado 2019 PMI también obtuvo una posición en la Lista A de Seguridad del Agua y una A- por su divulgación forestal. En conjunto, las clasificaciones más recientes de CDP colocan a PMI entre los pocos seleccionados para lograr un puntaje Triple A y entre las empresas más comprometidas con la transparencia y desempeño ambiental en todo el mundo.
“Tomar la iniciativa en transparencia y acción ambiental es uno de los pasos más importantes que pueden dar las empresas, y es aún más impresionante en este año desafiante marcado por COVID-19. La escala del riesgo para las empresas debido al cambio climático, la deforestación y la inseguridad hídrica es enorme, y sabemos que las oportunidades de acción superan con creces los riesgos de la inacción”, dijo Paul Simpson, director ejecutivo de CDP, quien llamó al liderazgo del sector privado a crear un “círculo de ambición” capaz de inducir a una mayor acción gubernamental y que garantice que las ambiciones globales de una economía sostenible netamente cero se conviertan en una realidad.
Para PMI, este logro es un reconocimiento del liderazgo ambiental global que protagoniza la empresa en su camino de transformarse para ofrecer un futuro libre de humo.
