El presidente del Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones (Indotel), Nelson Arroyo, participó del evento “Tech Talk Event 2021: Dominicana Inteligente”, donde se debatieron los retos de la revolución tecnológica en el país y la transición de los negocios al mundo digital.
Las palabras de apertura del evento que produce la Revista Mercado estuvieron a cargo del titular del Indotel, quien explicó el estado actual del sector de las telecomunicaciones en el país y los proyectos que está desarrollando el órgano regulador bajo su gestión.
El presidente del Consejo Directivo del Indotel destacó que el inicio del desarrollo de las políticas públicas de conectividad sucedió mediante el decreto núm. 539-20, a través del cual el presidente Luis Abinader declaró de alto interés el acceso universal al internet de banda ancha de última generación y el uso productivo de las Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicaciones (TIC).
Continuó explicando que fue mediante este decreto que se instruyó al Indotel la creación del Plan Nacional de Banda Ancha; a través del mismo se realizaron las acciones necesarias para disponer de las bandas de espectro radioeléctrico de los 700MHz y 3.5GHz, para las cuales se inició un proceso de licitación internacional para dotar de infraestructura de última generación en todo el territorio para cerrar la brecha digital, desarrollar la red móvil de quinta generación (5G) y la aplicación de la Televisión Terrestre Digital (TTD) en el país.
Arroyo destacó el trabajo en conjunto con el sector de radio fusión televisiva, quienes pusieron a disposición del Estado las licencias otorgadas en esas frecuencias; “esta es una demostración que podemos lograr grandes cosas a través de un proceso de diálogo abierto entre el Estado y el sector privado”, aseguró.
“Como órgano regulador ya no solo nos compete regular solo el sector de las telecomunicaciones, sino también a todo un ecosistema digital en el que convergen usuarios, prestadores de servicios, proveedores de infraestructura y generadores de contenido”, afirmó el titular del órgano regulador de las telecomunicaciones en el país.
También manifestó la necesidad de fomentar el acceso y uso productivo de las TIC como herramienta dentro de la transformación digital que desarrolla el gobierno del presidente Luis Abinader.
“Actualmente nos encontramos en un momento importante para el sector de las telecomunicaciones, la pandemia puso en evidencia las fortalezas y los retos que tenemos como país; y es tiempo de realizar los cambios necesarios para que la Nación se desarrolle y cree nuevas oportunidades para todos los sectores a través de las telecomunicaciones”, aseveró.
También resaltó la inversión millonaria que hará el Estado Dominicano para el desarrollo de la Televisión Terrestre Digital, la cual se planea implementar para finales del 2022. Además, explicó que el Consejo Directivo que preside, tiene como objetivo la modernización de la Ley General de Telecomunicaciones, 153-98, que data del 1998, para adecuarla a los avances y exigencias del sector en la actualidad.
En la actividad estuvieron presentes Patricia de Moya, editora en jefe de la Revista Mercado; Pedro Antonio Quezada, director de la Oficina Presidencial de Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación (Optic); Armand Toonen, vicepresidente de Altice Dominicana; Eugene Rault Grullón, gerente general de Servicios Digitales y otras figuras destacadas del sector de las tecnologías.
