El ministro Administrativo de la Presidencia y presidente de la Comisión Nacional de Calzados y Afines, licenciado José Ramón Peralta, reveló que el país exportó en el 2014 hacia Estados Unidos 10.02 millones de pares de calzados, lo que significa un crecimiento de 10.5% con respecto a 2013.
Afirmó que el año pasado la República Dominicana fue uno de los cinco países del mundo que evidenciaron mayor crecimiento de sus exportaciones de todas las categorías de calzados hacia Estados Unidos, posicionándose como el noveno mayor exportador a ese mercado.
Aseguró que en la actualidad la industria del calzado genera más de 17,000 empleos directos en las zonas francas del país, con empresas que fabrican algunas de las marcas más prestigiosas del mundo, tales como Timberland, Wolverine, Sperry, Clarks, Sebago, Bass, Rocky, Johnston & Murphy y Allen Edmons, entre otras. Peralta explicó que de acuerdo a informaciones publicadas por el Departamento de Comercio de los Estados Unidos y la Federación de Detallistas de Calzados de América (FDRA, por sus siglas en inglés), se registraron cambios significativos en el posicionamiento de los 10 principales suplidores del mercado norteamericano.
Dijo que ese comportamiento incluye el descenso de la participación de países como China, que por primera vez en muchos años alcanza una exportación inferior al 80% en el mercado estadounidense, lo que ha dado espacio al crecimiento de otras naciones como la República Dominicana.
Refirió que, también, dentro de los suplidores del hemisferio occidental, México registró un descenso de 8.9% en sus exportaciones hacia el mercado más grande del mundo, pasando a ocupar la quinta posición dentro de los principales exportadores de calzados.
