La llegada de turistas a la República Dominicana creció 3.4 por ciento en marzo de este año con respecto al mismo mes del 2020, cuando empezó la incidencia de la pandemia del COVID-19.
La información fue ofrecida por el presidente Luis Abinader durante la firma del acuerdo para la entrada en operación en el país de la cadena de cruceros Norwegian Cruise Line, y agregó que llegaron al territorio dominicano 263 mil 857 turistas en marzo.
Resaltó que la cifra representa, también, un 56% de crecimiento en relación con febrero de este año, lo que es trascendente en la recuperación del sector.
Al respecto, el ministro de Turismo, David Collado, señaló que la República Dominicana ha sido reconocida por la Organización Mundial del Turismo (OMT) como uno de los países que mejor han gerenciado la pandemia en esa materia, por la credibilidad de los protocolos sanitarios que se han creado.
Datos del Ministerio de Turismo indican que los vuelos tuvieron un incremento hacia la República Dominicana de un 39 % en marzo con respecto a febrero, y que las ocho zonas más frecuentadas exhibieron tasas de disponibilidad superior al 68 %.
Sobre el particular, el presidente de la Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de la República Dominicana (Asonahores), Rafael Blanco Tejera, reconoció la destacada labor de los gerentes de los hoteles en Semana Santa al propiciar unas vacaciones sin incidentes, y reafirmar el compromiso del sector turístico privado con el Gobierno y el Ministerio de Turismo por la recuperación del sector.

La República Dominicana será puerto madre de la línea de cruceros Norwegian Cruise Line que operará en Europa y el Caribe.
Al hacer el anuncio, Abinader adelantó que los cruceros comenzarán a llegar al puerto de La Romana el 15 de agosto próximo, semanalmente, por lo que proyecta en cada viaje el arribo de 5,000 turistas.
“La puesta en funcionamiento de este proyecto hará posible un despegue que dinamizará económicamente la zona y aportará decenas de puestos de trabajo a hombres y mujeres de las localidades cercanas y de otros puntos del país, lo que redundará positivamente en el crecimiento socioeconómico”, sostuvo el mandatario y recordó que más de 500,000 personas se sustentan del turismo a nivel nacional.
En la presentación del acuerdo, participaron Harry Sommer, presidente CEO de Norwegian Cruise Line; Jean Luis Rodríguez, director ejecutivo de Apordom; Alejandro Campos, titular del Consejo de Administración de Apordom, y Luis Emilio Rodríguez, director de crucero La Romana, entre otros.
