China negó este miércoles haber impedido que un grupo de expertos de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) viajase al país para investigar los orígenes del coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 y aseguró que es algo sobre lo que las dos partes siguen negociando.
“China está en contacto con la OMS para que los expertos puedan visitar el país. China está trabajando duramente en las tareas de prevención del covid, pero todavía está superando dificultades para acelerar los preparativos, algo que la OMS sabe perfectamente”, dijo este miércoles la portavoz del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores del país asiático Hua Chunying, citada por la prensa local.
Hua afirmó que “primero hay que terminar con los procedimientos necesarios y tomar las medidas pertinentes. Estamos todavía negociando con la OMS sobre esto”.
“Nunca ha habido ningún problema en la cooperación entre China y la OMS. No es solo un problema de visados. Las dos partes están en contacto para fijar una fecha y preparar la visita”, agregó.
El director general de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, desveló el martes que las autoridades chinas han impedido por ahora la llegada de algunos expertos de la misión, por lo que se mostró “muy decepcionado” con Pekín.
“En las últimas 24 horas, varios de los expertos comenzaron su viaje a China desde sus países, pero hoy hemos sabido que las autoridades chinas no finalizaron los permisos necesarios para la llegada del equipo, por lo que estoy muy decepcionado”, señaló Tedros.
El director general añadió que la OMS está en contacto con las autoridades del país asiático para “dejarles claro que la misión es prioritaria” y afirmó que desde China le han asegurado que acelerarán los procedimientos para facilitar el inicio de la misión.
Esta misión, según informó la OMS en noviembre, está formada por científicos de Estados Unidos, Japón, Rusia, el Reino Unido, Países Bajos, Dinamarca, Australia, Vietnam, Alemania y Catar.
Algunos están ligados a esa agencia con sede en Ginebra, otros a la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) y otros a la Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal.
La misión debería viajar, entre otros lugares, a la ciudad de Wuhan (centro de China), donde se detectaron los primeros casos del covid-19, y en principio su objetivo es encontrar el posible origen animal del virus y a través de qué canales se transmitió al ser humano.
La organización de esta misión se ha demorado durante meses, y ha estado rodeada de secretismo, tanto por parte de las autoridades chinas como de la propia OMS.
Un equipo de expertos de la OMS ya visitó China los pasados meses de julio y febrero para investigar sobre los orígenes del coronavirus, aunque en ambas ocasiones apenas trascendieron detalles.
